Nogging
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003912
Short, horizontal pieces of timber or steel fitted between the vertical studs of a framed wall. These pieces provide lateral support to the studs, preventing them from twisting or buckling under load, and also serve as a solid fixing point for wall-mounted fixtures or sheathing. Building codes often specify the spacing and size of noggings, which are also known as fire blocking or bridging in North American construction.
