Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005978
The opening in a machine through which material is fed for processing. In injection molding or extrusion, it is the entry point of the hopper that directs raw plastic pellets into the barrel to be melted and conveyed by the screw. The design of the throat, including its cooling channels, prevents premature melting of the material before it enters the screw.
