Lag screw

A large, heavy-duty screw with a coarse thread and a hexagonal or square head, used for joining substantial pieces of wood or fastening objects to timber. It is driven into a pre-drilled pilot hole and creates its own thread in the wood, providing a strong, permanent connection. Lag screws are commonly available in diameters from 1/4 inch to 1 inch.
