Toothing

A method of bonding new masonry to existing masonry by leaving alternate bricks projecting from the end of the existing wall. These projecting bricks, or 'teeth,' provide a key for the new work to interlock with the old, creating a strong and continuous bond. This technique is used when extending a wall or adding an addition to an existing structure.
