Topsail

A sail set above the lowermost sail on a mast, typically the second sail from the deck on a square-rigged vessel. It is hoisted on a topmast and provides additional propulsion in favorable wind conditions. On a schooner, a gaff topsail is set above the gaff of a lower sail.
