Boom

A long spar or pole extending from a mast to hold the foot of a sail, or a movable arm on a crane used for lifting and moving heavy loads. On a vessel, the boom controls the angle and shape of the sail. Crane booms can be fixed, telescopic, or articulated, with lengths reaching over 100 meters on large mobile cranes.
