Jaw
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003109
The forked or U-shaped fitting at the end of a boom, gaff, or yard that fits around a mast, allowing the spar to pivot. The inner surfaces of the jaw are lined with leather or other material to reduce friction and wear against the mast as the spar swings. A parrel, a rope or wire with beads, is passed across the open end of the jaw to hold it securely against the mast.
