Roach

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004880

A curve cut into the leech of a sail, extending beyond a straight line drawn from the head to the clew. This additional fabric increases the sail area, enhancing its performance. Battens are inserted into pockets along the roach to support the extra material and maintain its shape, preventing it from flapping in the wind.
