Shake
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005191
The uncontrolled flapping or vibrating of a sail, particularly at the luff, when it is not properly trimmed or when sailing too close to the wind. This condition indicates that the sail is not generating optimal drive and can cause wear and tear on the fabric and rigging. Adjusting the sheet or heading slightly off the wind can resolve the issue.
