Solar sail
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005456
A method of spacecraft propulsion that uses the radiation pressure from sunlight to generate thrust. Large, thin, reflective membranes are deployed to catch photons, which impart a small but continuous force. While providing low thrust, this propulsion system requires no propellant and can achieve high velocities over long durations, making it suitable for deep-space missions.
