Trunnion

A cylindrical pin or shaft that serves as a pivot point for an oscillating or tilting component. In automotive applications, trunnions are integral parts of universal joints, certain suspension systems, and heavy-duty axle mountings, allowing connected parts to articulate. Within a universal joint, four trunnions form the arms of the central spider, each fitting into a bearing cap on the surrounding yokes.
