Trunnion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003930
A short pin or shaft that projects from the side of a body and acts as its pivot or support, as in a trunnion-mounted ball valve, where shafts above and below the ball hold it fixed so line pressure pushes the spring-loaded seats onto the ball instead of pushing the ball onto a seat. Vessels and drums also use trunnions as lifting and support points. Trunnion-mounted designs are typical for larger, higher-pressure pipeline ball valves.
