Drop ball
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001200
A spherical device pumped downhole with fluid to actuate a tool or isolate a wellbore section. It lands in a specifically sized seat within a downhole assembly, such as a sliding sleeve or a ball-activated firing head for a perforating gun. The resulting pressure increase behind the seated ball confirms its position and initiates the tool's function, like opening a port or firing the gun.
