Drop bar
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001201
A heavy, cylindrical weight dropped from the surface into the wellbore to mechanically activate a downhole tool by impact. The bar travels down the tubing or drill pipe until it strikes a firing head or other mechanism on the tool, initiating its operation, such as setting a plug or firing a perforating gun. Drop bars are used when hydraulic activation is not feasible.
