Sinker bar
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004449
A solid steel rod with a threaded connection at each end, used in a slickline or wireline toolstring to provide weight. This weight overcomes the friction of the stuffing box and the wellbore pressure acting on the wire, allowing the toolstring to descend into the well. Sinker bars are available in a range of diameters and lengths to adjust the total weight of the tool assembly.
