Dropoff gun
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001202
A perforating gun assembly that is released from the tubing after firing and falls to the bottom of the well, leaving the tubing bore open for production. A release device in the string, activated once the guns have fired, drops the assembly into the rathole below the perforated interval. The method suits tubing-conveyed jobs in wells with enough open hole under the perforations to hold the spent guns.
