Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006254
A beveled shoulder on a tenon, designed to increase the strength of a mortise and tenon joint. The tusk fits into a corresponding recess in the mortise, providing additional bearing surface to resist shear forces on the tenon. This feature is found in traditional timber framing, particularly in joints where a horizontal beam, or joist, is framed into a girder.
