Tusking
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006255
A type of mortise and tenon joint where the tenon extends completely through the mortised piece of timber. A tapered wedge, or tusk, is then driven through a slot in the protruding end of the tenon, locking the joint and pulling the shoulders of the tenon tight against the mortised member. This joint is used for connecting floor joists to girders or trimmers to headers, providing strong support for the carried member.
