UFD
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006295
An instrument that uses high-frequency sound waves to detect and locate internal discontinuities such as cracks, voids, or inclusions in materials. The Ultrasonic Flaw Detector (UFD) transmits a pulse of ultrasonic energy into a test piece and analyzes the reflected echoes to create a visual representation of the material's internal structure. This method is widely used for non-destructive testing of welds, castings, and composite materials in manufacturing and maintenance.
