Time-domain reflectometer
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006029
An electronic instrument that locates faults in metallic cables, such as coaxial cables, twisted pairs, and power lines. A time-domain reflectometer, or TDR, sends a low-voltage pulse down the cable and analyzes the reflections that occur at impedance discontinuities caused by breaks, shorts, or connectors. The distance to the fault is calculated from the time it takes for the reflected pulse to return to the instrument.
