Vertical alignment
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006436
A liquid crystal display mode in which the molecules stand perpendicular to the glass plates when no voltage is applied, so the panel blocks the backlight and shows black until an electric field tilts the molecules to pass light. This gives deeper blacks and higher contrast than twisted nematic panels, though viewing angles are narrower than on IPS panels. Multi-domain variants such as MVA and PVA widen the viewing angle.
