A Very Large Air Tanker, an aircraft specifically designed or modified to drop large quantities of fire retardant or water on wildfires. These planes have capacities exceeding 8,000 gallons, allowing them to cover extensive areas with a single pass. VLATs are deployed to create firebreaks or cool down active fire fronts, often working in conjunction with ground crews.
