Wilderness

An area of land officially designated to be kept in its natural state, free from human development, roads, and industrial activities like mining, logging, or commercial agriculture. Management of these areas focuses on preservation, scientific study, and non-motorized recreation. In the United States, federal wilderness areas are established by an act of Congress under the Wilderness Act of 1964.
