Yo-yo

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006719

A small, gathered circle of fabric created for use in quilting, appliqué, and other decorative textile arts. It is formed by cutting a fabric circle, sewing a running stitch around its perimeter, and then pulling the thread to gather the material tightly into a puffy, puckered disk. Multiple yo-yos are then hand-sewn or machine-stitched together to create larger items like quilts, coverlets, or decorative embellishments on garments and home furnishings.
