Average weekly wage (AWW)

A figure used in workers' compensation to set weekly wage-loss benefits, based on the injured worker's average gross earnings before the injury. Each state defines the averaging period, which is 13 weeks in some states and 52 weeks in others. Most states pay temporary total disability at about two-thirds of the average weekly wage, subject to a statutory maximum.
