The right of an insured person to maintain insurance coverage under a group policy for a limited time after the qualifying event that would normally terminate it. This right applies following events such as termination of employment, reduction in work hours, or divorce from the covered employee. In the United States, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) mandates the temporary continuance of group health coverage for eligible former employees and their dependents.
