Dividends

A portion of an insurer's surplus earnings returned to policyholders of participating insurance policies. These payments reflect the difference between the premiums charged and the actual cost of providing coverage, including claims, expenses, and reserves. Dividends are not guaranteed and are declared annually by the insurer's board of directors.
