Mill construction

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-002189

A type of building construction characterized by heavy timber framing, thick plank floors, and masonry exterior walls, originally developed for textile mills. This construction style offers good resistance to fire due to the large dimensions of the wood members, which char slowly rather than quickly igniting. Insurers often classify it as a superior risk compared to lighter wood-frame construction.
