Montrose doctrine

A legal principle, originating from a California Supreme Court case, that addresses when an insurer's duty to defend is triggered in continuous or progressive injury and damage cases. It holds that the duty to defend is triggered if there is a possibility of coverage at any point during the policy period when the injury or damage occurred. This doctrine often applies to environmental contamination or long-term exposure claims.
