Paul v. Virginia

A landmark 1869 U.S. Supreme Court decision that held insurance was not commerce and therefore not subject to federal regulation. This ruling established that individual states had the authority to regulate the insurance industry. The decision was eventually overturned by the 1944 South-Eastern Underwriters Association case.
