Participating reinsurance

A form of proportional reinsurance where the reinsurer shares in the premiums, losses, and expenses of the ceding insurer in agreed-upon proportions. This arrangement allows the ceding insurer to transfer a portion of its risk while retaining a share of the underwriting profit or loss. Quota share and surplus share treaties are common types of participating reinsurance.
