Spread loss reinsurance

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-003148

A form of proportional reinsurance where the reinsurer shares in the losses of the ceding insurer over a period of time, rather than on a per-occurrence basis. The premium paid by the ceding insurer is adjusted periodically based on the actual loss experience. This arrangement smooths out the impact of large, infrequent losses for the primary insurer.
