Threshold level

A specific point or value that must be met or surpassed for a particular event or condition to occur or for a certain legal right to be activated. In insurance, this often defines the minimum severity of injury or financial loss required to bypass certain limitations, such as the ability to sue for pain and suffering. Many no-fault auto insurance states use a verbal or monetary threshold level.
