A clause in marine insurance policies indicating that the insurer will cover partial losses to cargo, provided the loss exceeds a specified percentage or deductible. This contrasts with 'free of particular average,' where only total losses or general average losses are covered. The policyholder bears the initial portion of any partial loss.
