Accused

An individual against whom a criminal charge has been formally brought, but who has not yet been convicted. This status begins when an accusatory instrument is filed and continues until a verdict is rendered or the charges are dismissed. The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
