Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-003469

A plea entered by a defendant in a criminal case, or a verdict rendered by a jury or judge, indicating that the prosecution has not proven the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. This outcome means the defendant is acquitted of the charges. It does not necessarily mean the defendant is innocent, but rather that the state failed to meet its burden of proof.
