Presumption of innocence

A fundamental principle in criminal law stating that every person accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The burden of proof rests entirely with the prosecution, and the accused is not required to present evidence or prove their innocence. This presumption protects individuals from arbitrary conviction and is enshrined in many legal systems.
