Criminal case

A legal proceeding initiated by the government against an individual or entity accused of violating a criminal law. The objective is to determine guilt or innocence and, if guilty, to impose a penalty. Unlike civil cases, which resolve private disputes, criminal cases involve offenses against society as a whole.
