Admission of guilt

A statement or action by a person accused of a crime that acknowledges their culpability for the offense. This can be an express confession to law enforcement or a guilty plea entered in court. An admission of guilt must be made voluntarily and knowingly to be considered valid evidence or to form the basis of a conviction.
