Guilty

The legal status of a defendant in a criminal case who has admitted to committing a crime or has been proven by a prosecutor to have committed a crime beyond a reasonable doubt. A plea of guilty waives the right to a trial and results in a conviction. In contrast, a civil defendant is found liable, not guilty.
