Guest statute

A law, formerly common in many states, that limited the liability of a driver for injuries sustained by a guest passenger in their vehicle. These statutes typically required a showing of gross negligence or willful misconduct by the driver for the guest to recover damages. Most guest statutes have been repealed or declared unconstitutional.
