Sealed verdict

A jury's decision that is placed in a sealed envelope and held by the court clerk or another designated officer until the court reconvenes. This procedure allows the jury to be dismissed after reaching a decision, with the verdict being formally announced in open court at a later time. The verdict is not final until it is read in court and affirmed by the jurors.
