Judgment notwithstanding the verdict

A motion made by a party asking the court to reverse the jury's verdict on the grounds that the verdict is not supported by the evidence or by law. The judge grants this motion, often abbreviated as JNOV, when no reasonable jury could have reached the verdict based on the facts presented. This action effectively overturns the jury's decision.
