Judgment as a matter of law
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-002833
A ruling by a judge during a jury trial that one party has not presented sufficient evidence to support their claim or defense, and therefore, no reasonable jury could find in their favor. This effectively takes the case away from the jury and enters a verdict for the other party. It can be requested by either party after the close of evidence, or even before the case goes to the jury.
