Motion for directed verdict

A request made by a party in a jury trial, typically after the opposing side has presented its case, asking the judge to rule in their favor without the jury deliberating. This motion asserts that no reasonable jury could find for the opposing party based on the evidence presented. It is now largely replaced by a motion for judgment as a matter of law in federal courts.
