Aggravate

To make a situation, offense, or injury worse or more severe. In criminal law, aggravating factors are circumstances that increase the culpability of a defendant or the severity of a crime, leading to a harsher sentence. Examples include the use of a weapon, the vulnerability of the victim, or a prior criminal record.
