Agricultural lien

A statutory claim against a farmer's crops, livestock, or other agricultural products to secure payment for goods or services provided for farming operations. This lien arises by operation of law, rather than by agreement, to protect suppliers of seed, fertilizer, or equipment. Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code governs the perfection and priority of agricultural liens in many jurisdictions.
