Administrative Law Judge, an official who presides over hearings and makes decisions in administrative law cases. ALJs are employed by government agencies to conduct quasi-judicial proceedings, such as those involving social security benefits or environmental regulations. They issue findings of fact and conclusions of law, which can often be appealed to higher administrative bodies or courts.
