Aliquot
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-005304
A gift in a will that specifies a fractional share of an estate or a portion thereof, such as the residuary estate. The beneficiary receives a proportion, like one-third or one-half, rather than a specific asset or a fixed sum of money. Unlike a general legacy for a set amount, the value of an aliquot gift fluctuates with the final net value of the estate after all debts, taxes, and administrative expenses have been settled.
