Anti-contest clause

A provision in a will or trust that disinherits any beneficiary who challenges the validity of the document or any of its terms. Also known as an in terrorem clause, it aims to discourage litigation over the estate. Courts may refuse to enforce such a clause if the challenger had probable cause for the contest.
